    Stone Forests
    The Shilin Stone Forest is a set of limestone karst formations, around 270 million years old and many resembling petrified trees, creating the illusion you're in a vast stone forest. The park is divided into seven scenic areas which include the Greater, Lesser and Naigu Stone Forests.

    Dadie Waterfall
    The Dadie Waterfall is fed by the Nanpan River and its cascade of water, plummeting down the 88m drop, looks particularly impressive after heavy rains.

    Caves
    There are several large caves in the park. You follow the walkways inside Qifeng Cave and Zhiyun Cave to see the strange rock formations, lit up with different colors, and listen to the eerie sound of two-minute gales sweeping through Penfeng Cave, a.k.a. Strange Wind Cave (August-November only).

  • Torch Festival

    Torch Festival
    On the 24th day of the sixth lunar month the Yi people of Yunnan celebrate the Torch Festival. This involves wrestling competitions, traditional dance, parades with flaming torches and other ways of playing with fire, such as dancing around bonfires

    Rock climbing
    The towers, pinnacles and rock formations of the Stone Forest offer great opportunities to those into bouldering, climbing and rock jumping. There used to be a couple of bolted routes, but these are now abandoned. Bring your own bouldering gear and take your pick.

    Lakes
    The largest of the park's two lakes, Lake Chang is long and narrow and features a small island in the middle, as well as underwater stalactites and stalagmites.
